The Social Welfare Department of Basel-Stadt relies on the services of Honegger AG

Basel-Stadt Social Welfare works every day to help people in need. It ensures that people living in poverty have the minimum necessary to survive, operates emergency shelters, supports asylum seekers and refugees, and helps people find affordable housing. Honegger AG has been partnering with Basel-Stadt Social Welfare since the end of 2025, supporting its staff with a variety of facility management services.

A personal crisis can arise unexpectedly — for example, due to illness, a breakup, or job loss. In such cases, residents of the city of Basel receive support from Social Welfare Basel-Stadt. Every day, 400 employees work to help those affected find a quick and lasting way out of their crisis. To this end, the Department of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs, and the Environment of the Canton of Basel-Stadt offers a wide range of support and counseling services.

However, these services are not limited to residents of Basel. In Basel-Stadt, social services staff are also responsible for providing housing, support, employment, and integration services to asylum seekers and people who have fled their home countries.

For a safe and clean home

The Basel-Stadt social welfare office considers a safe home to be a fundamental need and the foundation for participation in society. For this reason, a variety of housing options are made available throughout the canton. The Department of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs, and the Environment does not limit itself to simply placing and renting out social housing and emergency housing—rather, Basel-Stadt Social Services operates two emergency shelters, and homeless individuals are supported in their search for housing through the “Housing First” project.

Since the end of 2025, Honegger AG has been working alongside the Basel-Stadt Social Welfare Office, providing a range of facility management services and supporting on-site staff in their important work.

The staff at Honegger AG are responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and thus the operational readiness of the two emergency shelters. These same services are also provided in the administrative buildings of the Department of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs, and the Environment, as well as in other properties. In this way, the Swiss digital building services provider supports a vital and noteworthy initiative of the city of Basel and its surrounding area.
